The flight was due to land at the Heathrow airport on Monday evening. Reports from passengers indicate the BA198 had to be diverted due to a technical fault on the aircraft. Engineers were looking into the issue before the flight could resume its journey.
The flight departed from the Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 5: 15 PM, when it was scheduled to depart at 01: 15 PM earlier in the day.
According to one passenger onboard, who took to Twitter, said the technical fault involved smoke in the first class cabin.
A number of airlines, including British Airways had put out an alert earlier on Monday that many of its flights will be disrupted due to heavy snowfall in the UK on Sunday.
Engineers in Baku are checking the aircraft, it said, adding, "we are awaiting more information about the situation," according to news agency PTI.
The airline, however, did not share the number of passengers and crew on board the Boeing 777 aircraft.
