Kerala CPM meets over Pinarayi case

Kerala CPM meets over Pinarayi case
Thiruvananthapuram:

A crucial meeting of the CPM state secretariat is taking place in Thiruvanathapuram on Friday.

The meeting is expected to discuss developments related to the multi-crore SNC Lavalin case in which CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan is the seventh accused.

The CBI had filed a chargesheet angst Vijayan and eight others in CBI Ernakulam special court on Thursday.

Another meeting of LDF constituent CPI is also taking place in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday to discuss the same issue.

Vijayan is accused of awarding contracts to the Canadian firm for the renovation of three power units 12 years ago when he was the power minister.

The state CPM has already been divided on the issue, with one faction supporting Vijayan and the other headed by Chief Minister Achuthanandan opposing him.

On Sunday, Kerala Governor RS Gavai had granted permission to the CBI to prosecute Vijayan. Reacting to which, Kerala Home Minster Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the Governor flouted rules by going against the Cabinet.
