Kerala Congress to Report Shashi Tharoor For 'Adulation of PM Modi'

Kerala Congress has decided to complain against MP Shashi Tharoor

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress' Kerala leaders have decided to report party MP Shashi Tharoor to the leadership in Delhi, saying he has hurt party workers by his "constant adulation" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"There have been repeated instances of Shashi Tharoor being seen as appreciative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has hurt party workers' sentiment. We are sending a detailed report to the party high command and will wait for their decision," VM Sudheeran, the Kerala Congress chief, told NDTV after a meeting this morning with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

"We have to ensure that such remarks are not repeated," he said.

The Kerala Congress unit had earlier warned Mr Tharoor to stop praising PM Narendra Modi or face disciplinary action.

The two-time MP from Thiruvananthapuram rattled his Kerala colleagues when he said he was "honoured" to be featured among nine prominent Indians tagged by the Prime Minister when he launched his five-year Clean India campaign last week on Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.

On Tuesday, a Congress publication in Kerala tore into Mr Tharoor for writing "love songs" for PM Modi through "tweets and adulatory articles in opinion pages."

The caustic article in the Congress daily "Veekshnam" did not name Mr Tharoor as it said, "Holy cows who cannot stand one election defeat, how long will they last with the Congress party? In the present drought of the Congress, the disappointed ones must have been attracted to the prosperity and reign of the BJP."

It advised, "After having enjoyed the privileges of the Congress party, instead of allowing the paramour to enter through the back door, it is better to go out with the paramour through the front door."

The article compared Mr Tharoor to "Siberian migratory birds who come looking for optimum climate."

Mr Tharoor told NDTV that he was being targeted as he was seen as an outsider, "a foreign object in the body politic." The former union minister has asserted in tweets, "I am a proud Congressman and a proud Indian. In short: not pro-BJP, just pro-India!"
