Kashmiri Pandits On Edge As Fresh Online Threat Lists Homes, Phone Numbers

Fresh anxiety has gripped Kashmiri Pandit employees and residents after a new online hit list, attributed to the United Liberation Council, believed to be a proxy of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, surfaced with a unprecedented level of detail.

Unlike earlier threats, the latest letter contains personal information, including names, phone numbers and precise residential addresses of targeted individuals in both Kashmir and Jammu, raising concerns about a possible data leak.

Security agencies are verifying the authenticity of the letter and trying to identify those responsible for circulating it.

This is not the first such intimidation campaign. Following a similar threat in the past, the administration had advised minority government employees recruited under the Prime Minister's Rehabilitation Package (PMRP) to work from home and stepped up security at transit camps across the Valley.

This time, however, the threat appears more alarming. The terror outfit has published the names and contact details of PMRP employees along with detailed addresses, including street names and house numbers of Kashmiri Pandit families living in Kashmir and Jammu. In several cases, even vehicle registration numbers have been mentioned.

In an apparent attempt to discourage their resettlement and efforts to reclaim ancestral properties, the letter describes members of the community as "traitors" and "white-collar terrorists". 

Amit Raina of Roots in Kashmir questioned the silence of civil society groups and Kashmir-centric political leadership over the issue.

"In the 90s also they acted as mute spectators, which led to the exodus of five lakh Kashmiri Hindus, and this time too they are mum," Raina said.

The threat letter also alleges that the targetted individuals are in Kashmir to further the 'agenda of the RSS'.
