Srinagar:
The Army on Sunday night foiled a major infiltration attempt in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir and is currently engaged in a fierce gunbattle with the militants in the area. The operation which started several hours ago is still on.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that six militants have been killed in the encounter.
According to a spokesperson of the Army, they got a tip off about a large, heavily armed group of militants trying to cross over to India from the border. The spokesperson however, refused to reveal the exact number of militants.
This is fifth major infiltration attempt foiled by the Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir since the last week of June this year.
