Youth Turns Saviour, Donates Vital Organs Before Dying In Madhya Pradesh

A senior official of SAIMS said one of the kidneys was given to a patient in the hospital, while the other was transported to a private hospital.

Indore: A 22-year-old man, who was declared brain dead after an accident, today turned saviour for several patients, after his several organs and skin were donated for transplant, for which a green corridor was created in the city.

"The victim, Pappu Davar, a resident of nearby Dhar district, got seriously injured in a road accident on March 3 and he was declared brain dead on March 6," Shantanu Bhagdikar, Executive Director of Shri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS) said.

A local organisation working for organ donation convinced Mr Davar's family members for donating his organs, he said.

Upon receiving their consent, the district administration swung into action and made preparations for transporting the organs by creating green corridor.

The deceased's heart and liver were transported within nine minutes to the city's Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, Mr Bhagdikar said, adding they were sent to hospitals in Delhi for transplant.

"One of his kidneys was given to a patient in SAIMS hospital. The other kidney was transported to a private hospital through another Green Corridor, where it was implanted into a patient," he said.

The skin and eyes extracted from Mr Davar have been preserved safely by two different organisations, Mr Bhagdikar said.

The city has of late been conducting Green Corridors with an increasing level of co-ordination and swiftness by the police and administration officials. According to district officials, seven such green corridors have been created in Indore in the past six months.

A Green Corridor is a special route created for effectively transporting organs for transplantation, sans any red lights or with the traffic signals being operated on manual mode.
