CRPF removed from Baramulla after murder case against jawan

Srinagar:

After two consecutive days of protests in Baramulla and death of three protesters the state government has moved in to ease tension.

The CRPF has been removed entirely from the town and will be replaced by J&K Armed Police. This comes after a protester died in alleged firing by the CRPF on Tuesday.

Murder case has been registered against the jawan.

One person was killed and a teenager critically injured when security forces opened fire on
protesters in curfew-bound Baramulla district on Tuesday. Seven others were also injured.

Earlier, a bandh was called by the separatists after Monday's violence in which two people were killed and several injured, allegedly in CRPF firing.

An indefinite curfew was also clamped in Baramulla and a magisterial probe ordered.

The region had been simmering with violent protests, which were triggered by allegations that the police had misbehaved with the wife of a suspect they arrested.

This comes just days after lengthy protests in Shopian over the alleged rape and murder of two women and created more trouble for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
