Coronavirus: With 895 deaths, the total fatalities reached 1,12,161.

New Delhi:

India's COVID-19 caseload went past 74 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 65 lakh pushing the recovery rate to 87.78 per cent, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.

The coronavirus death toll climbed to 1,12,998 with the virus claiming 837 lives in a day, while the infection tally mounted to 74,32,680 with 62,212 new cases being reported, the data updated at 8 am showed. The active cases of coronavirus infection dropped below eight lakh for the first time in one-and-half months, the ministry said.

For nine days in a row the active cases remained below nine lakh.

World Health Organisation Chief Scientist Sowmya Swaminathan on Saturday said clusters and large gatherings which have the potential of spreading COVID-19 need to be identified and suggested continuous testing of samples by the government.

With a huge population in a country like India, she said, one has to go after the virus in order to control its spread before it becomes a community transmission.

"When we look at countries that have succeeded (in controlling the spread of virus) we have to go after the virus where it is present. Then it is easier (to prevent the spread of virus) than it becomes a community transmission," she said.

Global COVID-19 cases cross 39.5 million
The global coronavirus caseload now stands at 39.5 million cases, according to the latest updates provided by Johns Hopkins University.

According to the University tracker, there are 39,502,909 COVID-19 cases globally and 1,106,705 patients globally have succumbed to the virus.

Globally, 27,148,927 patients infected from the virus have recovered, the tracker states.

The US continues to be the worst-affected country due to the virus with 8,086,780 cases and 218,980 fatalities, which are the most deaths in the world.

As many as 3,197,539 patients across the US have recovered from the disease.

COVID-19: France reports over 32,000 new cases
France on Saturday reported a record rise in COVID-19 cases with 32,427 new infections registered over the past 24 hours, according to figures from the Sante Publique agency heading the coronavirus response in the country.

This takes the total number of infected since the beginning of the pandemic to 867,197, the tenth highest in the world.

The number of fatalities from the disease has increased by 90 since the last update, taking the total to 33,392, according to the Sante Publique.

According to the agency's figures, 7,198 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 in the past week, 1,269 of whom were taken intensive care.

COVID-19: Nagaland reports 94 new cases
Nagaland reported 94 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and 30 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours.

Dimapur recorded 55 new cases each while 23 cases were recorded in Kohima, along with nine in Mon, three in Zunheboto, and two each in Mokokchung and Peren.

Meanwhile, with a spike of 62,212 new cases and 837 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count reached 74,32,681 on Saturday according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

COVID-19: Mumbai reports 1,791 new cases, 47 deaths
A total of 1,791 new COVID-19 cases and 47 deaths were reported from Mumbai in the last 24 hours.

Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai said on Saturday that the total number of cases in the metropolis now stands at 2,40,339, including 18,717 active cases and 2,08,099 discharges. It said 9,682 persons have died due to the virus.

With 1,85,270 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country.

COVID-19: 946 cases, 42 deaths in Pune; 860 discharged
Pune district reported 946 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the caseload to 3,13,645, while the death count increased by 42 to touch 7,418, an official said on Saturday.

A total of 860 people were discharged during the day, he added.

Of the 946 cases, 418 were detected in Pune Municipal Corporation limits, which has recorded 1,57,051 cases so far, while the tally in Pimpri Chinchwad rose by 209 to reach 85,323, he said.

COVID-19: Delhi records 35 more deaths, count rises to 5,981; infection tally 3.27 lakh
 The national capital recorded 35 COVID-19 fatalities on Saturday, taking the death count to 5,981, while 3,259 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to over 3.27 lakh, authorities said.

These fresh cases came out of the 55,715 tests conducted the previous day.

On October 10 and September 29 as well, 48 fatalities were reported in the city, the highest number of deaths recorded in a day since July 16, when Delhi saw 58 fatalities.

Thirty-five more fatalities have been recorded, taking the death count to 5,981, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

The tally of active cases on Saturday slightly rose to 22,884 from 22,814 the previous day.

The total number of cases has climbed to 3,27,818, the bulletin added. The number of containment zones in Delhi slightly increased to 2,751 from 2,741 on Friday.

COVID-19: Assam's tally crosses two lakh-mark with 672 fresh cases
The COVID-19 tally in Assam crossed the two lakh-mark on Saturday with 672 new cases, while 12 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 865, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The fresh infections have increased the northeastern state's caseload to 2,00,391.

Of the new fatalities, three were reported from Jorhat, two from Golaghat and one each from Sivasagar, Kamrup Rural, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh and Chirang, Sarma said.

"Very sad and anguished to inform that 12 more COVID positive patients have succumbed to the disease... My condolences to the family. We stand by you in this hour of grief," he said on Twitter.

The fatality rate in the state is currently at 0.43 per cent.

The new cases included 149 from Kamrup Metropolitan, the minister said.

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 count rose to 1,58,502 on Saturday after 2,515 people were detected with the infection, while the number of people who have recovered reached 1,29,883, an official said.

Fourteen more deaths were recorded in the state, taking the count to 1,439, he said.

Coronavirus news: One more COVID-19 death in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on Saturday reported one more death due to COVID-19 and 20 fresh cases.

The district's death count has mounted to 70, while the number of active cases stands at 474.

The latest victim of the disease here is a 52-year-old man who was admitted to Muzaffarnagar Medical College, Begarazpur on October 14, District Magistrate Selvakumar J said.

Some 20 million French people are preparing to spend their first evening under curfew on Saturday, a measure taken by the government after an alarming surge in new coronavirus cases.

Coronavirus news: Hong Kong reports 17 new COVID-19 cases, 5,237 in total

Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 17 additional COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking Hong Kong's total tally to 5,237.

All of the newly-reported cases were imported, involving five males and 12 females aged between four and 50 who arrived from India, the Philippines, Pakistan, Morocco, Indonesia and France.

Coronavirus news: With 2,880 cases, COVID-19 tally shots up to over 4.52 lakh in UP
With 2,880 fresh cases, the COVID-19 tally of Uttar Pradesh climbed to 4,52,660 on Saturday.
A total of 4,11,611 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals after treatment, including 3,528 in the last 24 hours, Additional Chief Secretary, Health Amit Mohan Prasad said.

With this, the recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stands at 90.93 per cent, he said, adding that the daily number of patients getting discharged from hospitals is more than the number of fresh cases, PTI reported.

Coronavirus vaccine offered by Chinese city for emergency use costs $60: Report

A Chinese city is offering Sinovac Biotech's experimental COVID-19 vaccine to essential workers and other high-risk groups as part of a national programme for about $6, reported news agency Reuters.

The eastern city of Jiaxing's center for disease control and prevention (CDC) said in a statement on WeChat that two doses of the vaccine candidate, called CoronaVac, will cost 200 yuan ($29.75) per dose and that vaccinations for key groups including medical professionals have begun.

Telangana clocked 1,451 fresh coronavirus cases,taking the tally to 2.20 lakh, even as the recovery rate in the state rose to over 89 per cent.

The number of dead mounted to 1,265 with nine more fatalities. Coronavirus news: Bihar records 94.24% COVID recovery rate; gets world's no. 1 position, says minister
Bihar's COVID-19 recovery rate on Friday touched 94.24 per cent, which is the highest among all states of India and countries having registered more than one lakh positive cases, Health Minister Mangal Pandey said.

The state's coronavirus death count went up to 981 with nine more people succumbing to the disease in the past 24 hours, while 1,062 fresh cases took the tally to 2,01,886.

"Biharis are number one in defeating coronavirus in the world. Bihar's recovery rate is 94.21 per cent, the highest among all states and countries having more than one lakh registered cases," Mr Pandey said in a tweet.

In recovery rate, Bihar is followed by Andhra Pradesh (93.50 per cent) and Tamil Nadu (92 per cent) in India, he said.

Countering the petition filed by Association of Healthcare Providers India challenging the local government decision, the Delhi Government said, "The association plea is wholly misplaced, baseless and an attempt on the part of the petitioner to mislead the court and looking to secure the financial interests of the member hospitals under the garb of expressing masked concerns over securing healthcare facilities for Non-Covid patients, to be able to levy arbitrary and exorbitant medical treatment fee and other such charges from critical COVID-19 patients."

In an affidavit filed through Delhi Government Standing Counsel Sanjoy Ghose and advocate Urvi Mohan, the government reiterated that the decision only covers 33 subject private hospitals and nursing homes, out of over 1,150 private nursing homes and hospitals across the national capital city.

COVID-19: Sikkim reports 31 fresh cases
Sikkim reported 31 fresh novel coronavirus cases in the past one day taking the tally in the state to 3531, an official said on Friday.

A total of 3096 people have recovered from the disease, while the number of fatalities is 59 so far, state IEC member Sonam Bhutia said.

East Sikkim registered the highest number of 25 positive cases, while South Sikkim accounted for four cases and West Sikkim and North Sikkim reported one case each during the time.

As per the district-wise distribution of COVID-19 cases, East Sikkim reported 2572 cases followed by 706 in South Sikkim, 159 in West Sikkim and 13 in North Sikkim.

The mountain state has 295 active cases, he said adding 81 others have migrated from the state.
