Clash over football match in Kolkata; 1 dead

Kolkata:

One person was killed, 15 others injured and a premier resort in the outskirts of Kolkata was set on fire on Sunday following a clash that broke out after a football match on a ground next to the resort.

According to reports, the team that lost the match picked a fight with the referee. Soon, some trouble mongers stormed the ground, threw bombs and opened fire. One person was killed after which the hooligans fled to the resort next door.

Locals chased them and set some buildings on fire.

When locals gathered, the attackers entered the resort, Vedic Village, for shelter and the attackers set several cottages of the resort on fire.

The police said that problem started after the defeated team suddenly attacked the winners with bombs and guns.

"One person was killed and over 15 were injured in the clash. The injured were hospitalised. At least 30 cottages have been burnt and 10 fire tenders are trying to control the blaze," DIG (Presidency Range), S N Gupta said.

"All senior officers have rushed to the spot. Police and Rapid Action Force have brought the situation under control" Gupta added.

"We are investigating the incident and those found guilty will not be spared," IG (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purakayastha said.
