Chief Election Commissioner to Visit Kolkata to Review Poll Preparedness

The five-year term of the West Bengal Assembly is coming to an end on May 29, 2016.

New Delhi: With Assembly elections in West Bengal due next year, the Chief Election Commissioner and fellow Election Commissioners will be visiting Kolkata tomorrow to review the poll preparedness and the ongoing revision of electoral rolls.

"CEC Nasim Zaidi and ECs A K Joti and O P Rawat will be reaching Kolkata tonight to review ongoing electoral roll revision and poll preparedness in state," a statement by the EC said in Kolkata.

During their one-day stay tomorrow, the Commission will meet representatives of political parties, all district electoral officers, SSPs, commissioners, top civil and police officers of state.

The five-year term of the West Bengal Assembly is coming to an end on May 29, 2016. As per law, polls can be held six months prior to the end of the term of the assembly.

The draft electoral rolls in the state are likely to be published on January 5, 2016.
