Bundelkhand: Men dig well for cattle

Bundelkhand: As the country waits for the rain in the sweltering summer, it is desperate search for water in central India in Bundelkhand where women trek miles everyday to fetch water.

However, it is the livestock, which is dying by the hundreds of thirst, but there are a few who are fighting to save them.

For fifty years, Raghuwar Tewary of Karri village has been calling out to his animal friends to come and drink water. This year, the worsening drought became a test of his enduring love.

",This year I was very disturbed and that is why I got this bore done,", says Raghuvar.

He took a loan of Rs 40,000 for the borewell. He could've used the water for farming but he and his friends are happy giving water to the cattle.

This watering hole was built by eight shepherds of Sangna village after they saw 25 cows die of thirst. Fifteen days later, the well is the only drinking spot in a stretch of 10 km.

What man can do when he is stretched? In turn, stretch out a hand to help.

",We prayed and worked hard. Now we have got water,", said Vinod, resident of Sagnna village.

Being together through thick and thin in the face of adversity. How could they let cattle die? So instead of giving up, a few good men stood up to beat the odds.
