Patna: After over a decade-long trial, a special CBI court in Bihar court convicted nine people and awarded life sentence to eight, including a ruling Janata Dal (United) MLA Vijay Kumar Shukla alias Munna Shukla, for murdering former RJD minister Brijbihari Prasad.
While Munna Shukla has been given life sentence, another JD(U) leader Shashi Kumar Rai has been sentenced to five years in jail.
Former Lok Janshakti Party MP Surajbhan Singh has also been given life term.
Brajbihari was the Science and Technology Minister in the erstwhile Lalu Prasad - Rabri Devi cabinet. He had stepped down after the CBI arrested him in a scam related with the department.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of the nine convicts.
The seven others, who have been sentenced to life apart from Shukla, are former LJP MP Surajbhan Singh, ex-MLA Rajen Tiwari, Mantu Tiwari, Lalan Singh, Capt Sunil Singh, Mukesh Singh and Ramniranjan Choudhary.
Sunil Singh, who was imprisoned in high security Beur jail for a long time, had committed suicide on November 24, 2007.
