BJP hits out at government's FDI push

BJP hits out at government's FDI push
New Delhi: In a press conference this afternoon, BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad hit out at the government over the recent increase in cap on FDI.

Following are the highlights of what he said:

  • (On increasing FDI cap) These panic decisions should not happen in Indian economy
  • (On FDI in Telecom)  If Indian Telecom is unable to attract 74 per cent FDI, then how will it attract 100 per cent?
  • Why would foreigners invest money in India when Indians are not doing it? Reasons are corruption, lack of credibility, transparency, and uncertainty
  • Insurance Bill is in the Parliament. After discussions in the House we had agreed at 26 per cent, then what happened suddenly that they had to increase the cap?
  • Is this the result of Chidambaram's visit to the US where he was reprimanded by investors? Result of failure in Japan?
  • Why is the government making India's economy FDI driven?
  • BJP would like to know the amount of FDI proposals that have come in retail sector. No substantial proposal has come
  • Is there no other way to strengthen India's economy other than FDI? Has the government run out of all other options
  • If this government could not do anything to revive Indian economy in last nine years they will be unable to do anything in next few months
  • There is complete lack of credibility and hence the government is unable to do anything
  • Inflation, fiscal deficit are the only things that are rising in Indian economy, everything else is going down
  • Exports are 4.6 per cent now. Industrial production has decreased
  • There is no dispute when it comes to infrastructure development. Why is it that in spite of political consensus there is no development in infrastructure?
  • No development in power sector due to coal scam. No development in telecom due to 2G
  • The link between good economics and good politics is good governance
  • (On Narendra Modi) The attack on Modi by Congress lacks civility and dignity
  • The reason of Modi's popularity are the areas in which Congress lacks, which I just mentioned. His integrity, good governance, credibility
  • (On mid-day meal poisoning) 22 children have died. Sushil Modi went there. It is national tragedy. We were told that had children been immediately shifted to Patna Medical College, they could have been saved
  • I would not like to say much but I would like to say that there increasing signs of Nitish Kumar losing grip on administration. The split has taken a toll on the administration. He is concentrating on political issues rather than administration
