Independent candidate Chakat Aboh wins from Khonsa West constituency In Arunachal Pradesh
Independent candidate Chakat Aboh has won from the Khonsa West constituency in Arunachal Pradesh assembly by-polls. She was backed by five major political parties of the state, both ruling and opposition
According to the Election Commission of India, Ms. Aboh won with a margin of 1886 votes against her nearest rival Azet Homtok, who was also an independent nominee.
Ms. Aboh is the wife of NPP leader Tirong Aboh who was shot dead in May. Last month, five major political parties of Arunachal Pradesh, both ruling and opposition, unanimously decided to field Chakat Aboh.
At an all-party meeting attended by top leaders of the ruling BJP, and opposition Congress, JD(U), NPP and the PPA decided that none of them will field any candidate against Chakat Aboh to ensure peace in the area, a resolution adopted by them said.
Tirong Aboh, his son and nine others were shot dead by terror group NSCN(IM) at 12 Mile area in Tirap district on May 21, two days before he was declared elected from Khonsa West seat as a National People's Party (NPP) candidate.
Bypolls were held in one seat each in Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Puducherry, Meghalaya and Telangana among a total of 51 assembly seats.
