2G scam: Raja to be summoned by parliamentary committee
New Delhi: A Raja, who has been in jail for more than a year, will soon meet lots of politicians.  He will be summoned by the Joint Parliamentary Committee that's studying the telecom scam, allegedly crafted by Mr Raja when he was Telecom Minister.

The committee or JPC consists of nearly 30 MPs from different parties and is headed by PC Chacko of the Congress .  The telecom scam or 2G scam, named for the second-generation frequency, saw Mr Raja giving mobile network licenses and spectrum to companies who were ineligible for them.

Last month the Supreme Court cancelled 122 licenses issued by Mr Raja in 2008.  The judges said that all natural resources should be allotted on the basis of an auction.  They also found that Mr Raja had twisted a first-come-first-serve policy so that companies that he favoured were able to jump the queue.

The JPC has been questioning several bureaucrats and politicians involved with Telecom over the last few years.

The 2 G scam is being tried by a CBI court in Delhi. The investigation by the CBI is also being supervised by the Supreme Court.
