Hyderabad:

A young woman in Hyderabad was killed allegedly by a colleague who had been harassing her for months, less than a month after another woman was set on fire by a stalker. 24-year-old Bonu Janaki was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife and also strangled inside her home.

Anand Ananthappa, who worked with Janaki at a supermarket, has been arrested. A senior police officer said Anand had been harassing Janaki and wanted to marry her but she had repeatedly refused him. Janaki had even complained to her colleagues, who had apparently tried to talk him out of his obsession.

On Tuesday night, Anand reportedly went to Janaki's home and after an argument, allegedly stabbed her three times with a kitchen knife. Police sources say he then throttled her. When Janaki's roommate Roopa returned home from work, she found her lying on the floor. She took her to hospital but by then, it was too late. Police officer Bhujang Rao told NDTV that Janaki died after she was strangled; she had also lost a lot of blood from the abdominal stabbing injuries.

Police have arrested Anand Anand Ananthappa and charged him with murder. Roopa told the police that Janaki had been looking forward to going home for Sankranti or the harvest festival. Janaki had come from Srikakulam district to Hyderabad for work three years ago; she was the only breadwinner in the family.

Sandhya Raina who worked as receptionist in Secunderabad was on her way home from work when Sai Kartik followed her on a motorbike and stopped to speak to her. After an argument, Kartik suddenly pulled out a bottle, poured kerosene on Sandhya and set her on fire.
