Right kidney is usually 1 cm. smaller than the left kidney. Differences of size greater than 1.5 cm. may be due to dysplasia (developmental defect in the kidney while the baby is in mothers womb), or due to pyelonephritis (infection of the kidney which commonly occurs in early childhood) or due to narrowing of kidney artery supplying blood to the kidney.
