Gurgaon: A man was hit by a car and dragged for half a kilometre on its bonnet in Gurgaon near Delhi in an incident caught on camera.

Prateek Kumar has told the police that he was dragged on the car, a Honda City, when its driver was trying to run away after hitting him.

Mr Kumar and his three-year-old son were on their way to a relative's home on Monday evening when his car was hit by the Honda City. "I came out of the car and demanded compensation for the damage. At first, the driver spoke normally and asked me to park for discussions. But as soon as he sat in the car, he pressed on the accelerator to speed away."

Mr Kumar said he chased the man and was hit again when he stepped out of his car to confront him a second time.

"I fell on the bonnet of his car and was dragged for half a km," he charged, adding that the Honda City driver hit five bikers in his "escape" bid.

Mr Kumar claims when he first went to the police, they refused to file a complaint saying he did not have any visible injury marks or fractures. CCTV footage finally helped establish his story.

"I approached some of the shops having CCTV cameras and requested them to provide the footage. An FIR (police complaint) was registered on Wednesday when I presented the proof," he said.

Gurgaon police officer Hawa Singh said efforts are on to track down the hit-and-run driver.

"We are investigating the case and trying to identify the registration number of the car so that the accused can be jailed," Mr Singh said.
