Highlights

  1. Ranbir plays the protagonist in the Dutt biopic
  2. The movie also stars Sonam
  3. Dia Mirza plays Maanyata in the movie
The Sanjay Dutt biopic is currently under construction in full force but the actor's wife is reportedly no too happy about the movie. According to a report published by Ahmedabad Mirror, director Rajkumar Hirani has not briefed the star wife about the details of the movie - about her part in the film in particular. It is known that Ranbir Kapoor plays the protagonist in the much talked about biopic and actress Dia Mirza has been roped in to play Maanyata's role. For more inputs about the movie, Maanyata has reportedly been trying to get in touch with the film's team and has given several calls to Ranbir also. Maanyata "has been calling all and sundry (including Ranbir Kapoor), trying to get more info on the movie," said the report in Ahmedabad Mirror.

"We hear that Hirani has not intimated her about the screentime her character will get, or what role she will play in the film," the report added.

The cast of the yet-untitled Sanjay Dutt biopic also includes names like Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Monisha Koirala, Karishma Tanna, Paresh Rawal. Sonam has been cast as actress Tina Munim (who Sanjay Dutt dated for a while), Anushka as Mr Dutt's lawyer Satish Maneshinde and Karishma as his co-star Madhuri Dixit while Monisha Koirala and Mr Rawal will play Sanjay Dutt's parents Nargis and Sunil Dutt.

Talking about his first ever biopic and the real life character he is playing, Ranbir told PTI that Rajkummar Hirani is trying to portray the "human side" of the actor: "He hasn't been a hypocrite about it (his life). So it's not a propaganda film trying to portray him as God or something. We are trying to show a very human side of Sanjay Dutt, his perils, his downfall, his will to fight, his time in jail, terrorism charges, his drug phase, how he handled his mother's death two days before the release of his debut film, his relationship with his father. These were human conflicts in his life."

Sanjay Dutt, who completed his jail term in relation to an illegal arms possession case linked to the 1993 Bombay Blasts on February 25, 2016, made his comeback with Omung Kumar's Bhoomi. He is also expected to be seen in another Munna Bhai movie.

Ranbir Kapoor will concentrate on Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra after he wraps the Dutt biopic.
