Padmavati: No 'Romantic Sequence' Between Deepika Padukone And Ranveer Singh In The Film, Says The Director

New Delhi: Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in a newly released video, has rubbished all rumours and reports about a romantic sequence between Rani Padmavati and invader Alauddin Khilji in his upcoming film Padmavati, which stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh and is scheduled to release on December 1. "Humne iss film ko bahut zimmedari se banaya hai Rajput maan aur maryada ka soch ke," said Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In the video, the director clarified, "There is no interaction whatsoever between the characters played by Deepika and Ranveer." A source close to the filmmaker also told news agency IANS: "We've been going hoarse saying there is absolutely no dream sequence featuring Deepika and Ranveer. They haven't shot together in Padmavati for a single day. We don't know who started this rumour of the two being together."

The source further added, "It has caused monstrous mischief for the project and created havoc with Mr Bhansali's peace of mind."

In a recent interview to Filmfare, Ranveer Singh also said that he has no scenes with Deepika (his rumoured girlfriend) in the film. "I have no scenes with her in this film at all. But it's nice to have someone you can confide in. It's comforting," Filmfare quoted Ranveer as saying.

Padmavati has been on a rocky ride, since it went on the floors. In January, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was attacked and his set was vandalised when the movie was shooting at The Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur. There have been protests against the movie by organisations of the Rajput and the Brahmin communities. They have decided to oppose the release of the film if "facts are distorted".

Even Jaipur's former princess Diya Kumari has said that no film should hurt the sentiments of a community by "twisting historical facts".

Also, due to the controversy, film distributors in Rajasthan are not keen to buy the rights of the film.

The film will hit the theatres on December 1.
