New Delhi:

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna's pet dog Cleo, who was with them for 12 years, has died. The couple mourned their fur buddy in emotional posts on Instagram. Akshay Kumar posted a throwback picture of himself and Twinkle caressing Cleo, along with a solo photo of the dog. He wrote: “They say dogs leave paw prints on our hearts. You took a part of our hearts with you today. Rest well up there, Cleo. Will miss you.” Twinkle shared two videos and a photo of Cleo. In one of the clips, she can be seen brushing Cleo. She wrote that she has had “12 wonderful years” with the German Shepherd and now after her pet's death, her heart feels “heavy and empty at the same time.” Twinkle's post read: “Our beautiful Cleo passed away. We had 12 wonderful years with her. I don't know how the heart can feel heavy and empty at the same time, but it does.”

Twinkle Khanna's friends and colleagues from the film industry expressed grief over the death of Cleo in the comments section. Actress Sonali Bendre, who often posts pictures and videos of her pet dog, commented: “Oh no!” Bobby Deol dropped broken heart icons while actor Karan Kapadia, who is Twinkle Khanna's cousin, wrote: “RIP Cleopatra.”

Twinkle Khanna, who has a way with words, often shared pictures and videos of Cleo with amusing captions. Like for this photo of Cleo chilling in the garden area of Akshay and Twinkle's home, she borrowed a quote by author John Steinbeck and wrote: “I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that dogs think humans are nuts - John Steinbeck.”

The video featuring Twinkle brushing Cleo was recorded last year. She had shared the same clip on her Instagram feed and an excerpt from her caption read: “When I call out her name and she dashes towards me with a crow's carcass in her mouth, I hold up her face wanting to reprimand her. But as I look into Cleo's eyes, the colour of molasses and roasted cacao, it becomes clear, the reason why we unzip secret compartments of our heart in order to carefully tuck these creatures inside.”

Twinkle Khanna is a self-proclaimed “dog person.” Here's a photo of her other pet pooch.

Twinkle is the author of bestselling books like Pyjamas Are Forgiving and Mrs Funnybones.
