Los Angeles: Speculations about a sequelto Trainspotting have been doing the rounds for sometime anddirector Danny Boyle has said that his plans are still on.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker recently expressed hiswillingness to re-create the characters of Renton, Begbie,Sick Boy and Spud from the 1996 British crime drama adaptedfrom Irvin Welsh's novel of the same name, reported Empireonline.

"It will happen, I think. We have a very strong ideathat it would be a wonderful thing to reapproach, wherethey've all aged clearly into a mid-life kind of crisis," saidBoyle.

Trainspotting 2 already exists in the form ofWelsh's 2002 novel Porno, which picks up the principals adecade on. Renton is running a nightclub in Amsterdam; Begbieis just out of jail and on the warpath towards whoever wasanonymously sending him all the gay porn; Sick Boy is mining anew vein of "adult" entertainment; and Spud is contemplatingboth suicide and a history of Leith.

"It's not a great book, in the way that Trainspottingis genuinely a masterpiece. But we've been doing some work onit, and it's got potential, for sure. When the moment's right,I think we will approach it," said Boyle.

The sequel might see the reconciliation of Boyle withEwan McGregor, who played Renton. The duo had a famousfall-out with the filmmaker over 'The Beach'.

"It won't be just cashing in. [We'll] look at theseguys a whole generation fell in love with, in a certain kindof way. They've aged, just like we all do. It will be a verydeliberate and imaginative approach to it [rather than] just asequel which is cravenly a business decision," Boyle added.
