Kolkata: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar said that he got emotional while shooting for his upcoming film Airlift.

"This did happen to me. I choked once. I think this will happen to anyone, who cares for the people and the country because the film is about someone who cared for his country and sacrificed a lot. I think when people watch it, they will also feel it," said Akshay.

Airlift, which also stars Nimrat Kaur, has been directed by Raja Menon. In Airlift, Akshay plays the role of an influential businessman, who has made many enemies in Kuwait. It gives a sneak peek of the time when Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990 and more than one lakh Indians were evacuated from a Kuwait under attack.

"It's not a war film and it's not about destruction. It is just the story of how people were rescued from that war zone. The real life hero went unnoticed. Not many people know about him. I hope that he gets recognition with this film," added Akshay.

Akshay also said that the biggest heroes were the pilots of Air India.

"Hats off to the pilots who went there," said Akshay.

Airlift will release on January 22.(Also Read: Akshay Kumar Explains Why Airlift is Not a 'Commercial' Film)
