In upcoming food-themed romance Daawat-e-Ishq, love may be the number one item on the menu but it's served with an authentic twist of the nimbu and dollop of tadka masala. Aditya Roy Kapur, playing Lucknawi chef Tariq, knows that the way to Gulrez or Parineeti Chopra's shoe-salesgirl heart is through the stomach.
Aditya's recipe for romance included learning how to 'fake' professional cooking skills for the camera. In particular, he became adept at tossing and spinning a roomali roti high up in the air, in the best manner of the Mughlai tandoor.
"It was fun to do, not that I'm planning on making my own roomalis any day soon," Aditya told NDTV while sharing kitchen stories.
Co-star Parineeti said Aditya "got it in two rehearsals," something the Aashiqui 2 actor attributed to "being good at cricket as well because there's a lot of catching and being good with hand-eye stuff."
Lessons in the kitchen began at home for Aditya who said, "I learnt how to cut from my dad who is a really good cook and very fast, like Yan Can Cook. So, I learnt how to fake knowing how to cut well." Aditya now joins a select coterie of screen chefs before him including luminaries such as Amitabh Bachchan (
Cheeni Kum), Shah Rukh Khan (
Duplicate) and Rajesh Khanna (
Bawarchi).

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana.
Daawat-e-Ishq, helmed by Parineeti's
Ishaqzaade director Habib Faisal, releases on September 19.
