5 Things About Finding Fanny: Of Dimple, Naseer and Goa

A still from Finding Fanny

New movie Finding Fanny stars a collection of 'oddballs' - played by Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur - who set out from their sleepy Goan village in search of a love lost many decades before. Directed by Homi Adajania, Finding Fanny's cast are connected off-screen to each other and to Goa in various ways, much as they are on-screen. While Fanny may or may not found, here are five facts about those looking for her:

1. Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur, co-stars of many previous films, are also related in real life - their wives, Ratna Pathak Shah and Supriya Pathak, are sisters.

2. One of Naseeruddin's earliest roles was the young Goan mechanic Albert Pinto in Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai (1981). He briefly resurrected the name Albert Pinto in a scene from the satire Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983). Pankaj Kapur played Naseeruddin's Goan friend Albert Pinto in Jalwa (1987).

3. Naseeruddin has also played Goans in 1985's Trikal (prodigal son Ruiz Pereira), 1994's Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (Father Breganza) and 1995's Takkar (Inspector De Costa).

4. Dimple Kapadia's first two roles were playing Goans - Bobby Braganza in Bobby (1973) and Mona D'Silva in Saagar (1985).

5. Homi Adajania has cast Dimple in both his previous films - in Being Cyrus she played the promiscuous Katy Sethna, in Cocktail she played Saif Ali Khan's mother. Homi has also directed Naseeruddin in Being Cyrus and Deepika in Cocktail. Arjun Kapoor and Pankaj Kapur are his new recruits in the gang of five central characters.
