NIRF Ranking 2017: Top Ten Institutes As Per Common Overall Ranking

New Delhi: The list of top ten universities as per their position in the Common Overall Ranking in India has been released by Prakash Javadekar, the Minister for Human Resource Development. The Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has topped the list of top ten universities yet again. The university was recently in news for making it to the list of top 200 universities in the QS World University Rankings. Out of the top 10, the list features seven IITs. The complete list will be out on April 10, 2017.  

The top ten Higher Education Institutes according to the Common Overall Ranking are:

Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru
Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai
Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur
Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi
Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur
Indian Institute of Technology, Guahati
Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee 
Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

What is Common Overall ranking?

This year NIRF introduced a new category, Common Overall Ranking. All participating Institutes independent of their discipline or nature would be considered for Common Overall ranking subjcet to fulfillment of any of the following criteria:
  • The institutes have at least 1000 students enrolled  (calculated on the basis of approved intake) or,
  • The institute is a centrally funded institution/university of the Government of India.
