Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University presided over the function.
In his presidential address the Vice Chancellor highlighted the contribution of Sir Syed in popularising the modern and scientific Education in 19th Century India.
As one of the leaders of Indian renaissance, Sir Syed successfully inculcated "a spirit of free enquiry and large hearted tolerance" among the masses the Vice Chancellor observed.
The Chief Guest Mr. Deshwal, Senior Superintendent of Post paid a rich tribute to Sir Syed in his speech delivered on the occasion. Mr. Deshwal emphasized that Sir Syed is not just a name, he is a vision that was far ahead of his time. "Sir Syed rescued his country and community from ignorance to knowledge and from obtrusion to optimism," he said.
Prof. Tariq Ahmed, Director, Sir Syed Academy extended a warm welcome to the guests and everyone present over there. Prof. Ahmed appreciated the vision and single minded devotion of the Vice Chancellor for making the Bicentenary Celebration of Sir Syed a grand success. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor chalked out the minute details of each event with surgical precision, Prof. Ahmed observed.
Maj S M Mustafa (Retd) while proposing the vote of thanks expressed his gratitude to everyone present in the function. He was especially grateful to the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tariq Mansoor for his continuous support, advice and encouragement in organising this function. Maj. Mustafa also thanked Prof. Tariq Ahmed, Director, Sir Syed Academy for his valuable contribution in making the programme a memorable event.
Several books on the life and times of Sir Syed were also released on the occasion by the Honourable Vice Chancellor, in the presence of their authors.
