An early or tentative intimation of the exam schedule enables students to:

• Design structured study plans aligned with subject gaps and exam order
• Formulate targeted revision strategies and mock-test schedules
• Prioritise high-weightage subjects and manage time effectively

The CBSE date sheet will also help schools to align their academic and administrative activities, including deployment of teachers for examination and evaluation duties.

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Central Board of Secondary Education to extend to Class 6 students the same relaxation in the implementation of the revised three-language formula that has already been granted to students of Classes 7, 8, and 9.

A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana directed the CBSE to ensure that students currently studying in Class 6 are not subjected to a mandatory board examination in the third language when they reach Class 10.

"There will be no pass/failure. There will only be an appearance certificate," observed the Supreme Court despite the centre opposing the extension of the relaxation to Class 6 students.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has started the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for Class 10 and 12 board examinations 2027 from September 24. All the schools affiliated to the board can submit the LOC for eligible students through the official CBSE portal, cbse.gov.in, till October 21 without a late fee.

According to previous records, the board will also give an idea of the number of students expected to appear for the 2027 board examination. Last year, announcing the tentative exam schedule for Class 10 and 12 board students, the CBSE stated that in 2026 approximately 45 lakh candidates were expected to appear in 204 subjects across 10th and 12th.

With the release of the CBSE 10th and 12th timetable 2027, students can prepare structured study plans to enhance their performance. Students can also formulate a revision strategy as per the exam schedule and gaps between the examinations. 

A tentative or early intimation of the CBSE exam date sheet will help board candidates to come up with a strategy well in advance and prepare for the exam accordingly. 

As per a circular issued to CBSE-affiliated schools on September 17, the board has clarified that for CBSE Class 10 board exams 2027, the LOC will be submitted for the first session, which is scheduled during February-March. Schools will be required to submit LOC for the second board exams separately.

• CBSE Class 12 board exam for sports students
• CBSE Class 10 second board exam timeline
• CBSE Class 12 supplementary exam dates

The CBSE Class 10 main board examination was held from February 17 to March 11, 2026, while the second board examination was conducted from May 15 to May 21, 2026.

Based on previous records, the CBSE is expected to release the tentative schedule by the last week of September 2026. Meanwhile, students can expect the CBSE board final date sheet in the month of October-November 2026.

Last year, the CBSE issued a tentative exam date sheet on September 24, 2025. 

The Central Board of Secondary Education is expected to announce the board exam schedule for the academic year 2026-27 anytime soon on its official website, cbse.gov.in.
