OP Sharma was suspended from Delhi Assembly for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Alka Lamba.

New Delhi: BJP lawmaker OP Sharma, who was suspended from the Delhi Assembly for allegedly making derogatory remarks against AAP lawmaker Alka Lamba last year, will be able to attend the next session of the House.

The Delhi Assembly had in March last year suspended Mr Sharma for two sessions.

In July this year, the BJP had accused the government of dividing the fifth session into multiple segments to ensure that Sharma does not attend it.

The Delhi Cabinet had earlier this week decided to prorogue the fifth session of the assembly and call a fresh one on October 4, a government official said.

The Assembly Secretariat today notified the order of Lt Governor Anil Baijal proroguing the fifth session.

"Since the suspension of Sharma last year, the government has called six parts of two sessions (fourth and fifth).

"As the fifth session has been prorogued, party MLA OP Sharma will be attending the next session on October 4," Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta said.

Rebutting Mr Gupta's charge, an official said, "It is the government's prerogative to call or prorogue the session of the assembly."
