Guard shot at for stopping man from entering ATM booth

Delhi: A 50-year-old security guard was today shot at by two unidentified men in south-west Delhi when he prevented one of them from entering an ATM booth as cash was being filled in the machine, police said.

The incident took place in Dwarka Sector 7 at around 10 am when Amarpal, the victim, prevented the men from entering the booth, a senior police official said.

The two were reported to be roaming around the Kotak Mahindra ATM for sometime.

"The guard along with a driver and two others left Gurgaon in the morning in a van with cash which was to be filled in the ATM. The two bank officials entered the ATM booth while Amarpal was outside.

"He saw a man trying to enter the booth and he stopped him. While the guard was stopping the man, his associate joined them. An argument followed and one of them pulled out a pistol and shot at Amar Pal," the official said.

Soon after, they fled the spot.

Amarpal fell on the spot and hearing the sound of firing, the driver and others came out and informed police.

Amarpal was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhaya hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered, the official said adding, investigators will go through the CCTV images. They have also rounded up some criminals in the area.
