Dense fog engulfs IGI airport; 75 flights delayed
New Delhi: After a two-day respite, Delhiites woke up to yet another foggy morning today. There was dense fog in parts of the city. Road, rail and air traffic were hit.

Visibility at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport was less than 50 meters and 75 flights were delayed. Four others were diverted while 10 flights were cancelled either due to operational reasons or bad weather at the destinations.

Two Jet Airway flights from Doha and Abu Dhabi and one Kingfisher flight from Dubai were diverted to Jaipur while one cargo flight from Chennai was diverted to Ahmedabad, airport officials said.

The fog began to descend at about 2 am and the runway visibility dipped to  less than 100 meters due to which flights could not depart. The permitted low visibility take off ranges between 125 meters and 150 meters.

Yesterday, 266 flights were affected due to poor weather conditions.

According to the Met Department's forecast, visibility may remain below 50 meters till 9 am. It may improve to 500 meters from 11 am.

Poor visibility has also delayed 26 trains so far.
