Delhi Commission of Women Asks Police to Revise Traffic Rules for VIP Movement

Delhi Commission of Women has asked the Delhi Traffic Police to revise the rules for imposing curbs during VIP movement.

New Delhi: In view of two women who had to deliver in public vehicles due to traffic snarls on account of the Indo-African Summit, the Delhi Commission of Women has asked the Delhi Traffic Police to revise the rules for imposing curbs during VIP movement.

"The women were stuck in heavy traffic for over four hours. Such incidents highlight the urgent need to revise existing rules for imposing traffic restrictions during VIP movement," Delhi Commission of Women chief Swati Maliwal said in a letter to Special Commissioner (Traffic) Muktesh Chander.

The DCW chief sought a report from Delhi Traffic Police by November 9 on steps taken to inform the public of traffic restrictions, copy of the policy, standard operating procedures adopted during VIP movement and list of VIPs for whom such curbs are imposed.

Ms Maliwal also sought a list of roads and lanes that were closed or on which the traffic movement was halted on Thursday, resulting in jam. She also asked Mr Chander what steps were taken to ensure smooth flow of traffic and deal with any contingency in view of the Summit.
