Businessman, wife and daughter found dead in house

New Delhi: In a apparent suicide pact, a 60-year-old businessman, his wife and daughter allegedly took their life in west Delhi due to suspected financial problems and other domestic issues, police said today.

The bodies of Vijay Kumar, who owned a car accessories shop in Gurgaon, his wife Neena (53) and daughter Sonia (18) were found in their rented accommodation in the third floor of a building in Subhash Nagar locality.

The incident came to light yesterday morning after an acquaintance of Kumar came to meet him. As there was no response, he went to the landlady, Mamta, and informed her about it.

"Mamta then tried to elicit a response from the house and later informed Kumar's son Sandeep who is staying separately. He came and peeped through the window when he found that his family had committed suicide," a senior police official said.

He then informed police, he said adding Neena was seen in one room while Kumar and his daughter was in another room.

"All of them have slit their wrists. After slitting his wrist, Kumar hung himself," the official said.

A purported suicide note was recovered from the house in which Kumar claimed he could not do much for his wife and daughter and that he could not justify his existence. He sought forgiveness from his relatives and friends for his act.

Mamta told police that Kumar had taken loans from banks and some friends. Investigators suspect financial problems might have led to the suicides.

Asked whether Kumar murdered his wife and daughter and then committed suicide, the official said prima facie, it did not appear so as the scene did not suggest so.

A case has been registered and bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
