New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said that the law and order situation in the national capital has deteriorated and once again made a pitch for the police to be put under the state government.

"In the past few months, the law and order situation in Delhi has deteriorated. Delhi Police comes under PM, he should do something or otherwise the police should be put under Delhi government so that we can change it. If the police is not answerable to Delhi government then how will they be held accountable? Right now, Delhi police is a law unto itself," Mr Kejriwal said as he visited the home of the Class 11 girl in Anand Parbat area of West Delhi. The girl was stabbed to death on Thursday, allegedly for registering a molestation complaint.

"This incident is unfortunate and heinous. The boys used to constantly tease her, the girl resisted and she was murdered. We have ordered a magisterial inquiry in to the incident," the Chief Minister said.

"I have called the police commissioner on monday to discuss this case and law n order situation (sic)," he tweeted later. Mr Kejriwal also announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the family of the girl.

The AAP government has also sought a detailed report within two days from Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi in the death of the 19-year-old girl.

In his letter to Mr Bassi, Home Minister Satyender Jain sought to know as to why no FIR was registered by the police, despite repeated complaints lodged by the family of the girl.

The girl was stabbed nearly seven-eight times allegedly by two brothers, when she was returning home from a market in central Delhi. Her mother was also injured while trying to save her.

The teenage girl's family alleges the girl was killed by their neighbour Jaiprakash, his brother and their mother, because she had registered a molestation complaint against Jaiprakash in 2013.

The police have arrested Jaiprakash and has also detained his brother.
