Ambedkar's residence in city to be converted into his memorial
New Delhi: Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar's residence in the national capital, where he breathed his last, will be converted into his memorial, the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry said.

"Twenty-six, Alipur Road residence where Dr Ambedkar took his last breath would be converted into his memorial. It would house the memorabilia of Dr Ambedkar and a photo gallery covering all important aspects of his life and work," a Ministry official said.

A high level committee constituted by the Ministry and headed by the Planning Commission member Dr Narendra Jadhav presented its report to Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik on Monday recommending the construction of a memorial of the Dalit icon, the official said.

The committee also recommended that a structure inspired by the Buddhist architecture should house the memorial of Dr Ambedkar who embraced Buddhism later in his life.
