Train set on fire after nine students killed in Bihar accident

Siwan: Angry villagers in Siwan district of Bihar have set ablaze all bogies of the Howrah-Kathgodam Bagh Express after nine engineering students reportedly died in a collision between the train and their college bus at a railway crossing today.

The Howrah-Kathgodam Bagh Express was on its way to Delhi from Hajipur when it collided with DAV College's bus near the Chap Dhala locality in Siwan. Due to the collision, the engine of the train also derailed.

18 others were also injured in the accident; they have been taken to the Sadar hospital.

Fire engines are at the site and are trying to douse the flame.

Sources say the accident seemed to be a lapse on the part of the railway employees, considering the accident took place at a manned crossing. An inquiry will also be conducted into today's accident by the Commissioner of Railway safety, the Railways has announced.

They will also give Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the families of those who died, and Rs 1 lakh as compensation for the injured. The minister of state for Railways will also visit the accident site.
