In a strange turn of events, the man accused of killing journalist Saumya Vishwanathan suddenly flashed a knife in the middle of the court proceedings. The incident occurred when accused Ravi Kapoor was produced in court on Thursday.

Questioning the procedures being followed by the police before a convict is produced in the court, Ravi asked the judge to seek an explanation from the policemen present whether or not they had frisked him properly before bringing him into the courtroom.

The police did confirm that the accused had been properly frisked but Ravi claimed that the cops had not found the knife because it was they who had given it to him to attack another inmate in prison.

While it is not clear whether the accused was making a serious charge or just trying to derail the hearing, he did manage to deflect the court's attention from the hearing for a while.
