Orissa: Accused found dead in police lock-up

Berhampur, Orissa: The body of an accused was found inside the lock up at Jarada police station in Orissa's Ganjam district this morning, hours after he surrendered to the police. Police said Sanyasi Gamanga (55), accused in the death of a boy, was found dead inside the lock up.

Gamanga, who went to sleep after having food last night, might have died due to heart attack, police said. Gamanga, who hailed from Dididrisingi village under Ankuli panchyat in Patrapur block, had turned up at the police station with a countrymade gun yesterday morning after his
shot "accidentally" hit a 13-year-old boy Manoranjan Patra the previous day, police said. The boy died on the spot.

Gamanga had reportedly told police that a stray bullet hit Manoranjan while he was hunting inside the jungle and he was kept in the lock up for further interrogation.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chikiti) B B Deheru the body was sent for post-mortem and the exact cause of death would be known after getting the autopsy report.
