Bangalore: Lovers commit suicide to escape parents

Bangalore: Two lovers committed suicide in the boy's rented accommodation at Hegganahalli on Monday after the girl's mother discovered their affair and locked the house from outside.

Once the deaths came to light, the parents of the lovers (pictured) cremated the bodies without informing the police. Chhaya, a minor, was a 10th standard student of Hegganahalli Government High School. Her lover was private firm worker Krishnamurthy, 23, a distant relative of the girl. Both of them were residents of Hegganahalli and belonged to Kunigal in Tumkur.

Chhaya's parents were unaware of the affair till her mother found both of them together on Monday morning. The girl had left home around 7 am to attend a special class. After the class was over around 8.30 am, she met Krishnamurthy outside the school. Her mother saw them together and scolded them. The lovers fled and reached Krishnamurthy's house near New Carmel School in Hegganahalli around 10 am, and locked themselves up from the inside.

However, the mother also reached the house and locked the house from outside. She then summoned her husband, who reached the scene around 11 am. By then, the lovers had committed suicide by hanging with a dupatta, police said.

Chhaya's parents took her body to Kunigal after informing Krishnamurthy's family of the incident. The man's family reached the scene, and they also took the body to their native place. However, none of them informed the police. After the bodies were taken away, Krishamurthy's landlord, Tamil Raja, got scared. He informed the police around 2.30 pm. When the police started a probe, they found that the bodies were already cremated in Kunigal. A police team has gone to Kunigal to gather information.

The police said they had registered only a petty case on the information provided by the house owner. The police added that autopsy would be conducted, if necessary.
