13-year-old school boy kidnapped in Chennai

Chennai: Close on the heels of the kidnap and murder of two children by a cab driver in Coimbatore, a 13-year-old student was abducted at knife point in Chennai, allegedly by unidentified persons.

Keerthivasan, son of Ramesh, a businessman, was returning from DAV School in Mogappair locality when he was kidnapped by a gang, police said.

The abductors got into the car, in which Keerthivasan was travelling, when it halted at a traffic signal. Brandishing a knife, they then forced the driver out, police said.

The car was later found abandoned on the outskirts of the city. No ransom call had been made till late Monday night, they said.

Various angles, including business rivalry involving the boy's father who is into various businesses like mining , are being probed and police questioned Ramesh's driver, they said.

The incident comes days after an 11-year old girl and her seven-year old brother, children of a textile merchant, were kidnapped by their former van driver for ransom and murdered in Coimbatore, sending shock waves in the industrial city. The driver later confessed to the crime and said he killed the children out of fear of police action.
