Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new ID. Polo, marking the first fully electric version of its long-running Polo hatchback line. The ID. Polo is positioned as an entry-level electric compact car, built on Volkswagen's evolved MEB+ modular electric drive platform and designed to carry the Polo's legacy into the EV era.

Platform And Design

The ID. Polo sits on the shorter-wheelbase MEB+ architecture, which underpins several new compact EVs from the Volkswagen Group. The production model of the Polo EV closely resembles the ID.2all concept that was revealed in 2023. Notable features consist of top-mounted daytime running lights, a lit VW emblem, streamlined headlights, a sealed grille, and a prominent bumper with slatted details.

The Polo EV features a gently inclined roofline that enhances its sophisticated appearance. The charging port is located just above the right front fender. At the back, the Polo EV is characterized by a sloped rear windshield, a spoiler, and stylishly connected taillights. The 'Polo' branding appears to be illuminated.

Powertrains And Range

At launch, the ID. Polo will be offered with three front-wheel-drive outputs: 85 kW (116 hp), 99 kW (135 hp), and 155 kW (211 hp), with a performance-oriented ID. Polo GTI variant expected to follow later. Two battery options are available: a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack and a larger 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) pack, delivering a maximum WLTP range of up to 454 km, depending on spec and driving conditions.

Charging

DC fast charging comes standard, with the entry battery supporting around 90 kW and the higher-capacity pack capable of up to about 125-130 kW, enabling an approximate 10-80 per cent charge in roughly 24 minutes. The car measures around 4,05 metres in length and offers a boot space in the mid-440 litre range, which Volkswagen claims is competitive within the compact-EV segment.
