Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Bags 1-Star At Global NCAP Test: Details
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz - Global NCAP Crash Test

Global NCAP has published crash test results for the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, which was discontinued from the Indian market a few months ago. The sedan received a 1-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection and a 3-star rating for Child Occupant Protection. The tested model was manufactured in India, and the findings apply specifically to vehicles sold in the Indian market.

Though the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is no longer sold in showrooms, it remains widely present on Indian roads thanks to its strong sales over the years. Thousands of units are still in daily use, and the sedan will continue to circulate in the used-car market for a long time. This makes evaluating its crash safety crucial, both for existing owners and for those considering second-hand purchases.

In Global NCAP's 2025 assessment, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz scored 20.86 points out of 34 for adult occupant protection and 28.57 points out of 49 for child occupant protection. The crash test was conducted at a vehicle weight of 1,260 kg, with the results highlighting the model's safety performance before its discontinuation from the Indian market.

The frontal offset deformable barrier test on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz showed good protection for the head and neck of both driver and passenger. Chest protection was rated marginal for the driver and adequate for the passenger, while knee protection was marginal for the driver due to potential contact with dashboard structures, but better for the passenger. The bodyshell and footwell were deemed unstable, limiting the car to a 1-star adult safety rating. In the side impact test, head and pelvis protection was good, abdomen protection was adequate, but chest protection was weak. No side pole test was conducted, as side head protection is unavailable.

Global NCAP confirmed that Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is offered as standard and meets its performance benchmarks. Front seatbelt reminders are also included. However, the absence of side and curtain airbags, coupled with the lack of advanced driver-assistance features, restricted the Ciaz's overall safety rating.

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz fared better in child occupant protection, earning a 3-star rating. In frontal impact tests, rearward-facing ISOFIX-mounted child seats for 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies offered full protection, with no head contact recorded. Side impact performance was also rated good. However, Global NCAP highlighted gaps such as missing ISOFIX mounts for the front passenger seat, the absence of an airbag cut-off switch, and failed restraint installation in the rear centre seat, which lowered the overall child safety score.
