Mahindra plans to make its BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs more appealing by introducing a larger 79 kWh battery pack in the lower trims. This move is designed to address the rising consumer demand for longer driving ranges, focusing more on this aspect than on premium features.

Since their launch in March 2025, over 6,300 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e have been sold by Mahindra. More than 75% of buyers opted for the top Pack Three variant, which has a 79 kWh battery. This version offers a range of 683 km for the BE 6 and 656 km for the XEV 9e. In contrast, the lower trims currently feature a 59 kWh battery, providing ranges of 557 km and 542 km, respectively.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra's Executive Director and CEO of the Auto and Farm Sector, acknowledged the market's preference for longer-range vehicles. This recognition has led the company to rethink its variant lineup, incorporating a larger battery in more affordable trims.

By introducing the 79 kWh battery in its lower trims, Mahindra could establish a competitive edge in the EV market, especially against competitors such as MG, Tata, Hyundai, and Kia, who are enhancing their electric vehicle options. This approach allows Mahindra to offer an extended range while keeping costs down by eliminating the premium features of higher trims, thereby appealing to a wider range of customers seeking practicality and affordability.

Integrating a larger battery into mid-spec trims could be a significant advantage for Mahindra, allowing the company to appeal to both urban and intercity electric vehicle buyers. If successfully implemented, this change could greatly enhance the brand's value proposition in India's rapidly expanding EV market.
