Uber has introduced Uber Air powered by Joby, enabling users to book Joby Aviation's all-electric air taxi directly through the Uber app. Dubai is expected to be the first city where Joby will begin carrying passengers later this year, marking a significant step in the Uber-Joby partnership focused on multi-modal urban mobility.
How Uber Air Will Work
Riders will be able to open the Uber app, enter their destination, and - if eligible - select "Uber Air powered by Joby" as a travel option. The service is designed to offer one-tap booking, connecting Uber Black ground transportation with the Joby air taxi segment in a single, integrated journey.

Aircraft Specifications
Joby's electric air taxi is designed to carry up to four passengers and one pilot.
Key specifications include:
- Six tilting propellers enabling vertical take-off and landing
- Transition to forward flight after lift-off
- Top speed of up to 200 mph (approximately 322 km/h)
- Range of up to 100 miles (approximately 160 kilometres) on a single charge
The aircraft is engineered with multiple system redundancies to enhance safety. Joby states that the aircraft has an acoustic profile designed to blend into city environments, with significantly lower noise impact compared to conventional helicopters.

Certification And Testing
For commercial operations in the United States, Joby requires certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The company has completed more than 50,000 miles of flight testing and has entered the final stage of the certification process.
Background Of The Partnership
Uber and Joby have been collaborating on urban air mobility since 2019. In 2021, Joby acquired Uber's Elevate division, which helped establish the urban air mobility framework, including tools for market selection and demand modelling.
In 2025, Joby acquired Blade's passenger business. Uber and Joby have announced plans to integrate Blade's air mobility services into the Uber app starting in 2026, ahead of Joby's electric air taxi expansion.
Dubai is among the first markets identified for rollout, alongside New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom and Japan.
Uber states that its long-term strategy is to integrate road-based and aerial mobility within a single platform, enabling seamless multi-modal transport.
Joby Aviation, headquartered in California, is developing electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft and intends to both operate its own air taxi service and supply aircraft to partners.
