George Russell delivered a composed drive to win the Sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix, overcoming an early challenge from Lewis Hamilton and a late Safety Car interruption at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Starting from pole position, the Mercedes driver made a clean getaway but quickly found himself under pressure from Hamilton. The Ferrari driver, who had launched from fourth on the grid, surged through the opening corners and pulled off a bold move around the inside at Turn 9 to snatch the lead.
Russell wasn't prepared to let that advantage slip away so easily. The two former Mercedes teammates traded positions in the opening laps, battling wheel-to-wheel and keeping the crowd on edge. Russell briefly reclaimed the lead with a move into the Turn 14 hairpin, only for Hamilton to respond again at Turn 1 on the following lap.
The duel continued until Lap 5 when Russell finally made a decisive move at Turn 14 that stuck. Once ahead, he began to stretch a gap as Hamilton started struggling with tyre degradation, allowing Charles Leclerc to close in and eventually move into second place.
Behind the leading trio, rookie Kimi Antonelli endured a chaotic start. After dropping down the order off the line, the young Mercedes driver made contact with Isack Hadjar early in the race and was handed a 10-second penalty. Despite the setback, Antonelli produced an impressive recovery drive through the field.

The race took another twist on Lap 13 when Nico Hulkenberg's car stopped near Turn 1, triggering a Safety Car. Most of the front-runners pitted for fresh soft tyres, compressing the field and setting up a short sprint to the finish.

At the restart, Leclerc looked poised to challenge Russell but a small slide exiting Turn 14 allowed the Mercedes driver to pull clear once again. Russell held his composure over the final laps to secure victory.
Leclerc crossed the line in second, while Hamilton fought back to claim third after passing Lando Norris. Antonelli finished fifth despite his earlier penalty, while Oscar Piastri ended up sixth after being asked to give back a position following a restart infringement.

Further down the order, Liam Lawson and Oliver Bearman gambled on staying out during the Safety Car and managed to hold onto the final points positions. Max Verstappen narrowly missed out on scoring after recovering from a poor start that had dropped him down the field.
Russell's Sprint triumph capped off an action-packed race and gave Mercedes a strong boost ahead of the main Grand Prix on Sunday.
