Some Parties 'Will Vomit' About BJP at Centre. Skip Them, Says PM

PM Narendra Modi addressing a rally in Mahendragarh in Haryana

Mahendragarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked voters in Haryana today to give his party, the BJP, a clear majority in the state election next week. "I want a Team India where the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister work together. Do you want to elect a government that feels like vomiting on hearing about the central (BJP) government?" Mr Modi asked at a public meeting.

Haryana is currently governed by the BJP's arch rival, the Congress, with Bhupinder Singh  Hooda as Chief Minister.

The BJP, which won seven of the state's 10 parliamentary seats in the national election in May, is fighting the state election bereft of a partner, and without declaring a chief ministerial candidate. Instead, like in Maharashtra, which also votes on October 15, the party is asking voters to support the PM, who has been campaigning extensively in both states.

In addition to the BJP and the Congress (which won just one parliamentary seat in May), there are two regional parties that are players in this election: Om Prakash Chautala's INLD, and Kuldeep Bishnoi's HJC.

Mr Chautala, 79, has been convicted in a corruption case but has been campaigning in some parts of the state on bail.
