Register case against SP candidate; District Returning Officer

Bhimnagar: A District Returning Officer in UP has directed the police to register a case against a Samajwadi candidate for seeking votes by igniting religious sentiments.

"During the public meeting of state unit president Akhilesh Yadav in Hayatnagar area on January 5, the SP nominee from Asmoli, Pinky Yadav had sought votes by igniting religious sentiments. Directives have been issued for lodging a case in this connection," District Returning Officer Anuj Kumar Jha said.

A report in this connection is also being sent to the Election Commission, he added.

The elections to 403-member UP Assembly will be held in February this year in seven phases.
