Burqa of secularism preferable to khaki shorts of intolerance, Shashi Tharoor tweets
New Delhi: Speaking at a public rally in Pune yesterday, Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's election campaign chief Narendra Modi attacked the ruling Congress on the flagging economy and falling rupee. He said, "Whenever the government is in trouble, they put on the burqa (veil) of secularism so that no one questions them on real issues and problems." (Read)

Here are the reactions from some prominent leaders to his remarks:

Digvijaya Singh, Senior Congress leader:

Secularism for Advani ji and BJP is one religion, one country and one culture. The Congress party believes that every religion is same and equal and everyone has the right to follow their religion.

Shashi Tharoor, junior education minister:
Modi says we "hide behind the burqa of secularism". Preferable, surely, to the khaki shorts of intolerance&hatred that he now tries to hide?

Manish Tewari,
minister for Information and Broadcasting:
The Veil of Secularism is inclusive while wheels of communalism consider Libertarians as KUTTE KA Baccha - PUPPY to be crushed under their SUVs.

IF KUTTE KA BACCHA- PUPPY comes under your car u hv 2options cuddle &treat it or again crush it What would u call a man who does the Latter?

RPN Singh, Congress leader:
Glad 'veil' of development has been lifted by BJP to show its true divisive face.Losses in HP,Ktaka hv already exposed lies of governance
