Madras High Court Directs Authorities to Release Retirement Benefits

Madurai: The Madras High Court today directed the Principal Accountant General of Tamil Nadu government to release all retirement benefits of a school teacher, who was not in a position to work following skull surgery.

Justice S Vaidyanathan of the Madurai bench directed the Chief Education officer to forward the proposals to the headmistress of the Government High School at Nattalam in Kanyakumari district.

The headmistress should take appropriate steps to send the proposals to the Principal Accountant General, the court directed.

The whole work should be completed in 20 working days and send it to the Principal Accountant General, the court directed.

The husband of the teacher T Alphones submitted that his wife suffered hypertension and underwent skull surgery and she was declared medically not in a position to work. But the government had not allowed her to retire from service on the basis that her pension papers had been forwarded to the District Education Officer.

The government counsel also agreed that the retirement benefits of the petitioner's wife are to be settled.
