can be quite brutal, as in the case of one Dutch man who flew 4,500 kilometers to China to meet his online girlfriend, only to be jilted by her at the airport.
According to a post by
CCTVNews on Facebook, Alexander Pieter Cirk, 41, waited at the airport for 10 days straight, hoping his girlfriend would show up. However, the woman, surnamed Zhang, never did. The languishing lover was then hospitalised for exhaustion.
Mr Cirk apparently met Ms Zhang, 26, on a social networking app. Once their love story bloomed, he decided to travel all the way to Changsha in central China's Hunan Province to meet her. Since Ms Zhang wasn't there to welcome him, Mr Cirk decided to wait for her.
It was apparently only after pictures of him waiting at the airport began circulating that Ms Zhang realized he was in China to meet her.
"We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous toward me," Ms Zhang told
CCTVNews. "One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly, and I thought it was a joke. He didn't contact me later."
She had apparently travelled to another city for plastic surgery and hadn't seen Mr Cirk's messages.
Her severely exhausted was taken to hospital.
Mr Cirk is now probably back home but Ms Zhang is hoping to meet him soon.
Will she be flying this time? And is Mr Cirk also ready to resume their relationship? We'll just have to wait and watch for part 2 of this love story.
